The charm offensive launched by Gordon Brown talking to the Parliamentary Labour Party on Monday and Alistair Darling's chat to around 50 or so Labour MPs yesterday have clearly come up trumps: This morning, the number of Labour rebels signing Frank Field's ammendment on the 10p tae of income tax has actuyaly RISEN from 40 to 46. Devastating news for the government which has not got to DO SOMETHING or face a catastrohpic defeat next Monday. The mood in Westminster this morning rather matches
